Speculation for Final Fantasy MTG set

Looking to the future of MTG

Next year in 2025 MTG is releasing a Final Fantasy set and a Marvel set. Today we will be predicting trends in the Final Fantasy set.

  1. Mounts- Thunder Junction just released the saddle mechanic so expect to see Chocobos mounts.

  2. Vehicles- Airships, boats, magitech armor, the space whale, expect cool vehicles to be released as well.

  3. Summons- cards like the evoke elementals that bounce at end of turn might me created for this set.

  4. Equipment- The Buster Sword is a great example of an iconic final fantasy equipment.

  5. Assassins and ninjas- Yuffie is a ninja and assassin is a class in final fantasy tactics.

  6. One of one Buster sword- I wouldn't be surprised to see a card like the one ring for Final Fantasy.

  7. Class enchantments- These first came out in the DnD set. If it was a Commander set I could see class backgrounds but it's not so I predict class enchantments which are like sagas but you pay to level up for a new effect.

  8. Party mechanic- black mage wizard, white mage cleric, thief rogue and warrior fits the classes in final fantasy.

  9. Level up- Leveling up and grinding is a key part of Final Fantasy games. This can be reflected in the level up mechanic.

  10. Villains and heroes-Cloud, Tifa, Tidus, Sephiroth, Kefka, Sin, Chaos : expect to see a wide variety of protagonists and antagonists from across Final Fantasy.

If you think any of these trends are likely to pop up in the set investing in a few key cards could be wise. Vehicles equipment and assassins are my top picks for this set. I think this is going to be a great set for both MTG fans and Final Fantasy fans. Tales of Middle Earth was a best seller and I expect this set to beat it. Also watch out for Marvel next year because they are planning several sets based on that IP.

Whether or not you are a fan of Universe Beyond sets they are here to stay. Wizards knows they have the potential to bring a lot of new players with crossovers. I think we can expect more of these types of sets in the future. People that can predict trends can make a little extra cash. Personally I put it back into the game to make my hobby a bit less expensive.

If a one of one Sephiroth or Buster Sword is printed expect another chase card like the One Ring. Maybe not quite as popular but similar levels. If Wizards makes unique serialized cards with special art and lower print numbers I think they will continue to be sought after by collectors. Otherwise they will probably go down.

I think MTG is in a good place being more popular than ever and bringing in new players with crossovers. Some people decry the Fortnite-ification of the game. Some think eventually Wizards will only do crossovers. What ever the future holds I still am passionate about this game.

That is it for today folks. Hope to see you next week.
