Speculating on MTG Marvel
Ideas about the Marvel MTG set
Hello dear readers,
I don't know about you but I am very interested in the Final Fantasy and Marvel sets coming out next year. I am predicting hero and villain card types, equipment and artifacts, maybe infinity stone artifacts. Look out for cards of main Marvel characters such as Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, and Black Widow. I expect some team up mechanics like partner allowing the Avenger characters to work together in a team up. Perhaps a alter ego transform mechanic for characters like Spiderman would be implemented.
Hero and Villain EDH decks-Some things I expect to see are commander decks with the face cards being heroes and villains such as Ironman, Hulk, Thor and Thanos, Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Ultron and other villains.
Bonus Sheet-I would like to see a bonus sheet with equipment that is reminiscent of super hero gear, with stuff like swiftfoot boots or whispersilk cloak.
Partner- Partner cards between heroes and sidekicks like Ironman and Warmachine or Peter Quill and other Guardians of the Galaxy would be nice to see. This would allow for interesting combinations to be created.
Panoramic lands-Landscapes depicting the cities and planets of Marvel comics like New York or Wakanda.
Exploring creature types such as rogue, citizen, soldier to depict heroes and villains would be interesting. Maybe another batching of types like in Outlaws of Thunder Junction.
Some serialized cards such as the infinity stones or Captain America's shield are to be expected after the hype generated by the One Ring.
High prices for collector booster boxes-Tales of Middle Earth were some of the priciest collector boosters. With the popularity of Marvel I don't expect any lower prices on these.
Popular in EDH- I expect this set to bring in a lot of new players to the most popular format. Fallout was very successful and I expect this set to be as well.
Showcase frame- I hope to see a comic book showcase frame inspired by comic book art. Expecting to see speech bubbles and screen printed dots in the style of comic illustrations.
Vehicles-Iconic vehicles such as the Guardian’s spaceship, the Wakanda flying vehicle, X-Men’s plane and more.
Marvel was unexpected because it is owned by Disney which is already making Lorcana. However they stated they are sticking with their animated properties for that game. I expect Marvel sets to be very popular and bring new players to the game. Marvel brings a new genre of superhero fantasy to Magic so it is interesting to see how this will bring the game forward moving on.
Let me know what sets you are most looking forward to in the future. Assassin's creed, Modern Horizon 3, Bloomburrow and Duskmourn are left this year with another possible fourth quarter release. Let me know in a response what you are most looking forward to this year and in the next two years.
Magic is in a great spot where it has established its own lore and is now bringing in other properties into its universe. It is always interesting to see what spin MTG is putting on other established characters and stories. It is an exciting time and I hope to explore this more in the future.
Thanks for tuning in and see you next time.
