Ravnica Remastered Financial Review

Reprints dipping in price

Today I will be talking about Ravnica Remastered and the financial impact of reprints. This is a reprint set so all the cards will see a decrease in price. The next upcoming months after release on January will be a good time to buy some staples from the set.

Ravnica Remastered borderless shocklands

Old border shocklands

The biggest draw from the set are the shocklands. Shocklands are a cycle of two color true duals with dual lands types originally from the first Ravnica block and have been reprinted in every visit since. Because they have land types this makes them them fetchable with fetchlands. They damage you for 2 if you want them to come untapped. This means you can fetch an untapped dual for 3 life. In modern, these are the best two color lands. They are also played in pioneer. These are in a reprint set so they are not coming to Standard.

These lands are viable in Pioneer and Modern and are staples. In the upcoming months after the reprints we should be seeing prices drop. Shocklands are around $10-15 dollars CAD right now and I predict that they will be around $10.

They will be reprinted again in Ravnica Clue edition a month later as box toppers but not in standard. Ravnica Clue edition is a self contained board game like way to play magic based on the board game Clue. These reprints of shocklands should not affect the price much more but I believe shocks will easily be available for around $10 so then will be a good time to get playsets if you want them.

These come in regular, old border, borderless and serialized versions. Old borders are often popular. The Time Spiral Remastered versions of old border reprints go for a significant premium.

Cyclonic Rift

Cloudstone Curio

Bruvac the Grandiloquent

Karlov of the Ghost Council

Other valuable cards which will see a drop include Cyclonic Rift, Cloud Stone Curio, Bruvac the Grandiloquent and Karlov of the Ghost council.

Crypt Ghast

Lord of the Void

Hellkite Tyrant

Protean Hulk

Some cheaper $10 or so cards include Crypt Ghast, Lord of the Void, Hellkite Tyrant, and Protean Hulk. Another thing to look out for is borderless cards and old border cards. Foil old border often have a premium.

A final thing to look out for is serialized old border cards. This includes serialized old border shocks and old border birds of paradise. I believe the serialized shocks will be sought after, if pricy. However as wizards continues to serialized cards they will become less special. No old border cards have been serialized before though and they are heavily played cards. I wouldn't necessarily buy these but if you open one congratulations. I would sell as soon as possible or hold on if it has value to you.

I conclusion, I think you should get your shocks when they drop. Other staples include Bruvac, cyclonic rift and cloudstone curio for EDH. Some of the other cards I mentioned are played in Commander as well. Although this set missed out on some of the priciest Ravnica card reprints such as doubling season and smothering tithe, it still has some good cards to watch dip in price. I hope you get the cards you enjoy.
