Henry Wu, Ingen Scientist deck ideas
Jurassic Park EDH
Today we will be looking at Henry Wu, Ingen Scientist from the new Jurassic Park cards for Caverns of Ixalan. This is a powerful human tribal option that has the ability to draw lots of cards and potentially make treasure at the same time. It will also put a lot of creatures into the graveyard, so reanimation and death triggers are on the menu. Cards like Zulaport Cutthroat and Konrad the Grim can help ping out our opponents. A card like Mortal Combat can win with 20 creatures in the graveyard.
First let's focus on the card. The first half of the card rewards us for playing humans. For this reason we will run half of our creatures as humans tribal. Cards like Xathrid Necromancer and Jarren, Archbishop of Thraben reward us for humans dying by giving us tokens. Henry Wu rewards us for playing humans by allowing us to exploit a non human creature to draw a card. If it's over 4 power, we get a treasure token.
The second half of our deck will be non human creatures preferably with power 4 or greater unless they have some other utility. Larger creatures provide us with a treasure when sacrificed. We also want to take advantage of death triggers. Cards like Grim Haruspex, Midnight Reaper and Harvester of Souls provide cards when creatures die. Since we will draw a lot, Psychosis Crawler pings opponents when we draw cards.
Speaking of drawing cards, this will be one way we can end the game with a combo. We will be running Ley Weaver and Lore Weaver which tutor for each other. In addition we will run Freed from the Real, which allows us to untap an enchanted creature for U. Since Ley Weaver untaps two lands, as long as we have two islands we can make infinite blue mana and then use it to draw cards with Lore Weaver’s ability. Then with Psychosis Crawler we can ping our opponents to death. This is a four card combo so we need a tutor like diabolic revelation. This allows us to tutor X cards for 3BBX. This means it will cost 9 to tutor our combo, plus 12 to play our infinite mana combo. This means it would only be used late in the game to finish off the table.
Overall this deck is very creature heavy. This means we don't have a lot of interaction except for etb creature triggers. Removal stapled to a creature like Chupacabra, Terrastodon and Scavenging Ooze will fill in. A card like Conjurer's Closet will allow us to recur these effects. We want a good mix of humans and non humans to keep drawing cards. Our graveyard will fill up so recursion like Whip of Erebos and Chainer, Nightmare Adept will be good.
For a budget mana base, we can use gates and tap lands. A card like Spelunking will allow us to get these lands untapped that way we get untapped duals for cheap. Another similar effect is Archelos, Lagoon Mystic. Note that this affects opponents as well but if he is tapped all cards come in tapped.
These are some suggestions for a deck with this commander. I have some ideas provided for you here and I will leave some room for you to customize the deck for yourself.
